UK Introduces eVisa System for Pakistani Students and Skilled Workers

UK Immigration eVisa announcement for Pakistani students and workers

ISLAMABAD – July 15, 2025:
The United Kingdom has officially launched its new eVisa system for Pakistani citizens applying for work and study visas. According to the British High Commission in Islamabad, this digital upgrade will replace the traditional physical visa stickers for most applicants, offering a more convenient and secure experience.

What is a UK eVisa?

An eVisa is a digital record of a person’s immigration permission to enter or remain in the UK. Applicants can access their visa details online by creating a UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account, removing the need for physical documents pasted into passports.

Who Will Get the eVisa?

The transition to eVisas applies to main applicants in the following categories:

  • Student visas, including short-term study (up to 11 months)
  • Skilled Worker visas (including health and care professionals)
  • Global Talent visas
  • International Sportsperson visas
  • Temporary Work visas (Charity, Creative, Religious, Government Authorised Exchange, etc.)
  • Youth Mobility Scheme
  • Global Business Mobility routes:
    • Senior or Specialist Worker
    • UK Expansion Worker
    • Graduate Trainee
    • Service Supplier
    • Secondment Worker

Note: Applicants applying as dependants or for non-work/non-study visas, such as tourist or family visit visas, will still receive physical sticker visas.

Benefits of the eVisa System

British High Commissioner Jane Marriott stated that the change will simplify the process for thousands of students and skilled workers.

“It allows applicants to keep their passports and access their visa details online, saving time and hassle,” she said.

According to the High Commission, this is part of a wider strategy to create a modern, digital border system. The eVisa system has already been tested successfully in other immigration routes with millions of users worldwide.

Important Note for Existing Visa Holders

Anyone who already holds a valid physical visa sticker does not need to take any action. The update to eVisas does not impact visa conditions or legal immigration status.

Eventually, the UK plans to roll out the eVisa system to all visa categories, making the process more streamlined, secure, and user-friendly for all applicants globally.
